Creation The hermessence iris ukiyoé is inspired by a japanese artistic movement known as ukiyo-e. I collect prints and have a mental picture of the irises in the works of hokusai and hiroshige. I chose to eschew the classic approach to iris by combining it with other, virtually unknown floral scents. Jean-claude Ellena, perfumer. Olfactory notes Floral and radiant, iris ukiyoé interprets the powdery scents of iris blossom and the delicacy of the rose. An hermessence suitable for both men and women. The object The iris ukiyoé bottle is showcased by a vibrant iris-purple lacquer on the glass, echoed by the leather cap. The Hermès detail The house’s emblematic lantern bottle constitutes a unique and timeless signature. its leather cap with saddle-stitch signature is topped with an engraved Hermès saddle nail.I collect prints and have a mental picture of irises in the ‘floating world’ (the ukiyo-é in japanese) in the works of hokusai or hiroshige. they inspired me when I was composing this divertimento based on floral iris. I felt like foiling the classic approach to the iris by working on the flower’s fragrances, which are virtually unknown. its perfume is delicate but very much there, shifting between different notes: rose, orange blossom and mandarin, all expressed by small, impressionistic touches. Jean-claude Ellena
