On our rugged and untamed home of islay, we can't help but stub our toes on the mystery of something as old and enigmatic as time itself: Seann Chreag, gaelic for ancient rock. There are few souls on the island brave enough to journey up the crest of Islay's highest crag*, Beinn Bheigeir, in the dead of night and howl at the moon shining high above. Like shortie, for starters, our canine distillery mascot. On cold starry nights, he often prowls through tussocky peat bogs in the cloak of darkness, straight to the crest, catching the fruity scent of sherried oak on the wind as our whisky ages in casks over a thousand feet below. *Crag: a steep, rugged rock or cliff face
